Orange County and LA County — step by step.
CA CCW permits are issued by your county Sheriff's office. Requirements differ between OC and LA County. Download the application from your county's website before starting training.

California requires 16 hours of training for initial applicants and 8 hours for renewals. Roger's curriculum meets OC and LA County Sheriff requirements and is SB2 compliant. You can begin training up to 4 months before submitting your application.

Submit to your county Sheriff's office. OC and LA County both require an in-person appointment for fingerprinting and document review. Processing times vary — plan for 3–6 months.
California DOJ and FBI background checks are run after submission. If your background check does not clear, Roger provides a 100% refund on your training fees.
Once approved, your permit is valid for 2 years in California. Mark your permit expiration date and plan your renewal 6 months out to avoid a lapse.

California CCW permits are valid for 2 years. Roger recommends starting your renewal process 6 months before your permit expires — earlier if you want to lock in a class date before the schedule fills up. If you completed initial training with Roger, he'll send you a reminder when your renewal window opens.
Processing times can run 8 weeks or longer. If your permit expires while your renewal application is sitting in queue, California treats it as an expired permit — meaning a full restart: new 16-hour course, new application, new live scan fingerprints. Four months is the minimum buffer we recommend.
