You are applying for a California CCW permit for the first time
Your current carry permit is expired or will expire in the next month or so. (message us for details if you aren't sure when your permit expires)
You live or carry in Orange County or Los Angeles County
16 hours covering everything California requires — and the practical skills you'll actually use.
Modules can be taken in any order to fit your schedule.
CCW Fundamentals, Defensive Mindset, Situational Awareness & Threat Avoidance. Phycological and Physiological Realities of Deadly Threat Resolution, CA Firearms Laws & Legal Use of Force. What you can and cannot do legally as a CCW holder in California — covered precisely so you carry with confidence, not uncertainty.
You will learn how to select the best gun and accessories for your needs. You will come away with a LIFETIME Safe Handling Culture. - NEVER have an accident! Students perfect the 5-principles of Pistol marksmanship. Most students are the best shooters at any range they go to after this 4-hour module because of the coaching they get. Dry-fire exercises are performed with the same training devices used by World-class shooters (Mantis 10X, LaserShot, AI monitoring, etc.) Every World-Class shooter does 10x the number of dry-fire trigger pulls as live-fire shots fired. You get this type of training with us. It is best to take Module Two and Module in order.
Holster selection, draw mechanics, retention — practical choices that affect real-world readiness. Many other training don't include combat shooting at all. Some do not even teach how to draw and shoot fast. This module has a lot of simulator training where you are coached on how to shoot defensively in stressful situations. You will apply all you learned in Module Two. It is best to take Module Two and Module in order.
You will face real-world threats people face in the home and on the street testing everything you've learned . This module isn't theory - it is real. Do you recognize a threat before it is too late? Can you avoid using deadly force, and if not, can you actually protect yourself - ON THE STREET AND IN COURT. All California SB2 training requirements are reviewed and documented for your permit application.
Mandatory range qualification component meeting OC and LA County Sheriff's Department requirements is counted in Module 4, but scheduled at the range individually with each student on a different night.
Small classes keep instruction personal and effective.
Some issuing authority websites can give the impression that you need a completed background check before starting your CCW training. That's not the case. California law allows you to complete your required training up to six months before finalizing your permit application — so there's no reason to sit on the sidelines while paperwork moves. Roger's courses fill fast and the issuing authority only gives you two weeks to get training once they notify you that your application has been approved. You may not be able to get in to one of Roger's coursed in that window.
If your background check doesn't clear? Roger offers a 100% refund. No questions, no runaround.
★★★★★
“Roger took the time to make sure every person in the class was confident and safe. The SimRange scenarios made the legal and judgment pieces real, not theoretical.”
Michael R. — First-time CCW holder, Orange County
★★★★★
“I was nervous coming in as a newer shooter, but the way the course was structured — classroom, SimRange, and live fire — built my skills step by step. Very professional and organized.”
Jessica L. — CCW applicant, Los Angeles County
★★★★★
“I've taken other firearms classes and this was on a different level. Clear standards, no ego, and everything tied directly back to what the sheriffs expect from CCW holders.”
Daniel K. — Experienced shooter, CCW initial
