CCW RENEWAL COURSE

8-Hour California CCW Renewal

OC & LA County Approved

SB2-compliant renewal training for current CA CCW holders.
Modules 1 and 4 only — 8 hours total.
Take them in either order.

⚠️ DON'T WAIT — CALIFORNIA HAS NO GRACE PERIOD AND PROCESSING TAKES TIME Processing can take 8 weeks or longer. If your permit expires while your renewal application is in progress, it may be treated as expired — and you must start completely over. New 16-hour course. New application. New live scan fingerprints. Start your renewal training 4 months before your expiration date to give yourself enough runway.

Is This the Right Course for You?

Yes, this course is for you if:

  • You currently hold a California CCW permit

  • Your permit has not expired.

  • You live in Orange County or Los Angeles County

  • You want SB2-compliant renewal hours from a POST-certified instructor

  • What it covers: Safety, legal use of force, mental health resources (minimum 1 hour), situational awareness, safe storage, and live-fire qualification for each firearm listed.

  • You want to be able to defend yourself from an actual threat - Not just "check the box."

  • Duration: Minimum 8 hours of training.

Renewal applicants: you do not need to wait for your application to be processed before completing training. Roger offers a 100% refund if your renewal is denied for any reason.

WHAT RENEWAL COVERS

CCW Renewal requires Modules 1 and 4 only — 8 hours total. You can take them in either order based on what's available.

You do not need to complete Module 1 before Module 4. Register for whichever date is available first and complete the second module at your convenience.

Module 1 — Legal Foundations (4 hrs)

[REQUIRED FOR RENEWAL]

Renewal Module

Updated CA firearms laws & legal use of force. Safe carry & storage. Covers what's changed under SB2 and recent legislation — reviewed for experienced carriers who need to stay current, not start over. This module addresses real-world threats that are likely in high-crime states like California, Arizona and Illinois where gang members are responsible for almost twice the number of violent crimes as in other states. You will learn how "bad guys" think and understand how to predict their actions before it is too late. The phycology and physiology of a deadly threat experience is covered in depth. The best way to win a gun fight is not be in one. We teach you to take advantage of "The Gift of Fear." Don't be distracted or freeze-up. Learn to use those gifts. If you took your initial course elsewhere, you probably didn't get this. We teach graduate school stuff.

Module 4 — Qualification & Compliance (4 hrs)

[REQUIRED FOR RENEWAL]

Renewal Module

We start with the mandatory hour on mental health and mental health resources directed by CA DoJ. You will better understand and respond appropriately to a threat from someone chemically and/or mental disturbed. You will catch warning signs when someone you love should not have access to your firearm. We have extensive experience with mental illness. The DoJ does not prescribe what must be covered in this mandatory 1-hour block of training - only that it must be taught. "What" and "How" is up to each instructor - often very superficially. We have a lot of crisis response training in this area and have worked with the Orange County Mental Health Office for years. This module finishes with the mandatory final exam, 2 more hours of simulation training and your live-fire qualification (scheduled on a different night). We take care of all the SB2 compliance documentation. The required range qualification meets OC and LA County Sheriff's renewal standards. You will leave with all the SB2 documentation for your permit renewal submission.

Initial course students complete all 4 modules. Renewal students complete Modules 1 and 4 only. See CCW Initial Course

Renewal Training That Actually Refreshes Your Skills.

Most renewal classes are a lecture and a qual. BGS includes SimRange scenario exercises — real-world defensive situations that refresh your instincts, not just your paperwork. Our $30,000 LaserShot simulator uses the same scenarios trusted by law enforcement agencies nationwide.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY.

Real feedback from renewal students who trust BGS to keep their permit — and their skills — current.

★★★★★

Mark L., OC Renewal

I've renewed twice with other providers and this was by far the most professional. Roger respected that we already carry and focused on changes in the law and sharpening decision-making, not basic gun handling 101.

★★★★★

Jessica P., LA County

The SimRange scenarios were worth the class by themselves. It felt like a meaningful tune-up instead of checking a box. Paperwork for the Sheriff was squared away before I left the range.

★★★★★

David R., Repeat Student

This renewal was smoother than my original class. Clear expectations, efficient schedule, and Roger had every SB2 detail dialed in. I booked online, shot the qual, and left confident my renewal package was solid.
